I’m late but Happy New Year! How has 2013 been treating you so far? I’m been taking pics but haven’t gotten around to posting them so it’s time to stop loafing around and get to getting!

I love the double denim trend but had yet to indulge, I was looking for the perfect denim shirt and I found it at Marshalls while browsing one fine day. I paired my shirt with black jeans instead of the traditional dark denim. I added my teal bag for some color and my black wedges with the leopard heel, you know how I feel…a little animal print never hurt anything or anybody.

This shirt is going to be getting a lot of wear I’m forewarning you, its comfy and I think kinda cool. I can see it with lots of options already.

I pray that 2013 is the year of breakthrough for you, that everything you ever dreamed of comes true!

I love the bird print of this shirt, it’s kinda dark and stormy then you have a smattering of white birds fluttering around like crazy. See the inner workings of my mind…very interesting!

The back is sheer, with a tail… a little unexpected and sexy.  I want to do this shirt with a pencil skirt and faux leather leggings, still working on finding the perfect pair for me.

I don’t know why I like this shot so much, I feel so tough like I’m saying, “don’t mess with the bull or you’ll get the horns”. This line came from a family movie starring Vin Diesel. Who is as cornball as me to know it, LOL.?

This bag is the my new “IT” bag du jour, love the color, just a quick shot to bring life to any outfit. I always grab a jacket, it’s instinctual, I still have a some difficulty believing that it’s less than a week away from Christmas and I don’t really need a jacket. I guess living in Florida will catch up with my head eventually. Have a beautiful day!

Go forth and please….be stylish

This are photos of me from the past couple of weeks, I’ve posted a few on Instagram but never got around to blogging the looks.  They are just some tee shirt and jeans randomness but I’m trying to stop feeling that I have to be dressed to the nines before I can put up a new post.

Just a casual morning car shopping with the hubs.  He couldn’t wait for Santa so he took matters into his own hands. This is what he gifted himself with…I don’t want to hear anything when I start gifting myself, lol.

As you have noticed I have blogged much in the past month, I’ve been way to busy with my family having a fantastic time courtesy of The Starlight Project. I don’t know if I mentioned this before but my children, Troy Jr. and Tatiana were the recipients of a dream bedroom makeover and the reveal happened 2 weeks ago this coming Saturday. The Starlight Project creates custom one of a kind bedrooms for children who have special needs. My son is on the Austism Spectrum and my daughter was born with Down syndrome which qualified them for this wonderful blessing.  I’m not going to talk about it, I’ll show you what a wonderful gift we were given since we just happened to be on the local news.   Not only did my children receive this beautiful bedroom, we also were given the gift of some family time as they sent us to a all expenses paid overnight jaunt to a local hotel with all kinds of fun activities that were planned for us to enjoy.

It’s still feels like dream sometimes when I look into their room and see them playing, watching television or just sleeping then I realize that dreams really to come true…when you believe.

Until next time

Right now I’m listening to Alicia Keys song, “Brand New Me” and its become my personal anthem. I have it on repeat..its the one of the first songs I listen to in the morning and it often is playing while I am drifting off to sleep. She is singing my life, every single word feels as though it was written for me, its so personal, so truthful, so transparent….so me. I have always been a fan of Ms. Keys but she has outdone herself with this song. Her voice is earthy, raw, often imperfect and that is exactly what I love about her voice, the sheer roughness of it. She’s singing what’s in her heart and what comes out of the heart is not always perfect. In fact it’s often messy, very messy but oh so real.

I normally would do a end of the year post at the end of the year however I saw the title of another bloggers post which stated simply, 2013 is not promised to you, at that moment I realized that right now is all we truly have, so why wait until 2013 to make resolutions/affirmations/changes, now is as good a time as any. I could rattle on about making all kinds of resolutions however I have learned from the past that they rarely come to fruition. Too much pressure to make changes for all the wrong reasons. What I do recommend though is taking a look back so you can use what you see to move forward.

From 2010 onward things have been a constant roller coaster for me, so much good has happened but mixed with that has also been quite a bit of bad. The highlights were moving from New Jersey to Florida and the lowest point was experiencing the trauma of watching my son get arrested, jailed and sent to a residential center. There were all kinds of stuff that happened in between (read the posts titled Fashion Breaks to find out about those) but these were the things that defined those years the strongest for me. I hurt in ways that I never knew you could hurt but out of that was birthed a new kind of strength that I didn’t have before. As we approach 2013 I have become acutely aware that I will be entering a new decade of living and I want to embrace it with positivity, excitement and authenticity. I want to leave the hurt and negativity of those past 2 years right here and enter into this new year with a new clarity of my purpose. 2012 has been a year of tremendous growth for me and in me. I am learning new things about myself, some good and some not as good but with that knowledge I am becoming as the title says, a brand new me.  As I am learning more about myself I want to share that self with you…my readers. My goal is not to blog more but to blog with purpose and intent.

I always say that this is more than a fashion blog but a ministry, it is my prayer that I will reveal more of that in the coming year. My biggest obstacle in doing just that is me, the prideful me, the me who is scared to shed the old skin and proudly wear the skin that I’ve grown into. I know that God has not given me the spirit of fear, He has and will deliver me from every and all enemies so all I have to do open my mouth so He can fill it. God has allowed me to go through the things I have experienced in my life to set the captives free and I intend to do just that. I believe the time has come to allow God to show himself mightily through me, now let’s pray that Cathy will get the hell out of His way.

My purple booties wanted to come out to play and I wanted to wear a dress so it was a perfect pairing. I grabbed the easiest dress I have, my purple paisley dress which I wore here but this time I wanted a cooler vibe so I added my faux leather jacket, jewelry and done!

I was visiting my mother in law in the hospital and it turns out that the hospital is set along the river which gave amazing views…perfect opportunity for a photo shoot don’t you think?

I love when I find new locations to take photos and they almost always showcase water…I have a love for the calm and peace the water brings, it soothes me in a way that nothing else can so I always seek out its healing touch. Until next time…

I don’t know if I’ve ever shared this with you before but I’m obsessed with beautiful skin. Glowing, luminous, blemish free skin, that’s what floats my boat in beauty…that and super deluxe eyelashes but I digress, back to skin. For as long as I can remember I have been a pimple popper, a blackhead squeezer, a scab picker…it’s a sickness that has caused my once perfect skin to be riddled with dark marks, hyperpigmentation and discoloration.

I used to hide it with heavy foundation designed to cover up the most stubborn marks but now that I’ve gotten older I would prefer not to not wear a mask of makeup. So a few months ago I set out on a mission to recapture the clear skin I once had.  I begun taking vitamins and supplements plus stepping up my water intake (I HATE water by the way ) after doing a little research I decided that African Black Soap was just the ticket. It’s natural and inexpensive, my kind of cleanser so I started my “Get skinsational” campaign. I was starting to see my skin brightening gradually so now to address my biggest concern, the dark spots and the answer to my prayer came in the form of Youth Code Dark Spot Correcting and Illuminating Serum by L’Oreal. This stuff came straight from heaven, it works, it really works! Within two weeks I started seeing fading in the spots that were recent and after a month older, more stubborn spots were fading. The only issue I have is that it’s a bit pricey but for results like this…I’m worth it!

Now shortly after I made the decision to get my skin healthy I received an offer from Erno Lazlo New York, the world renowned skin care company to review some products from their skin care line. Were the stars aligning with my desires or what? I chose products from their Oil Control line to combat this oily skin that I have.  Oily skin is a blessing and a curse because the oils help slow down the aging process yet help foster acne!. I have been religiously using the products and here is where we are now.

I stopped using my black soap and only used the Erno Lazlo products so I could see what was actually working.  I received the entire line but I could not use two of the items because they are tailored to a specific skin tone which unfortunately wasn’t mine. To begin I have to say I loved the packaging, I am a sucker for pretty, elegant packaging…this was so clean with it’s chic black and white logo that it fit right in with my style and had no trouble being prominently displayed on my bathroom counter.

Using the system together works however it works almost too well for my crazy sensitive skin. It became a bit dry which is very difficult to achieve with my super oily skin. So I have found a workable solution which is I wash with the Oil Control Cleansing Bar at night to completely cleanse my skin from the day’s dirt and makeup, swipe the Conditioning preparation toner then apply the Night Oil Control treatment after which I use the Oil Control Day Lotion for my moisturizer. In the morning I wash my face with black soap then put on the Youth Code serum before applying any makeup if I’m wearing any that day.

I would recommend Erno Lazlo New York for great skin care but it is not cheap, the entire line that I received was priced $350 retail however if you select items ala carte you can control the cost to make it more affordable and purchase only what you need.

I’m well on my way to beautiful skin…are you working on getting your skin in shape? Let me know what works for you.

Disclosure: I received the entire Erno Lazlo New York product line at no cost to me for review however I have given my complete and honest opinion concerning the products.

I hardly get the opportunity to wear my cold weather gear I brought with me from New Jersey but today I finally got my chance, cause baby it’s cold outside.  I  hate to be cold so when I was forced to leave my warm cocoon I grabbed clothes for warmth and comfort. Long sleeved tee, check, chunky sweater, check, leggings and my denim jacket, double check. Knee high riding boots completed the ensemble.

I don’t know what’s up with this weather, no sunshine, cuddle up by the fire temps, I know this is North Florida and we don’t get the heat of South Florida all year long but please…get your act together!

Until the next post, go forth and please…be stylish!

I don’t refer to my age much not because I’m ashamed of it but more that I don’t think it’s relevant to blogging. Blogging transcends age, it’s a medium that levels the playing field. No matter what your age you have a voice to share with others. Today I’m gonna talk about age because I was recently featured as one of 15 Awesome over 40 bloggers…talk about honored, I was floored. I didn’t realize that anyone was taking notice of my little blog and that the someone was The Budget Fashionista. Style knows no age and I believe being older gives one a little edge as you’ve had many years to exercise your styling chops. As you get older you’ve usually worked out all the kinks, got all the crazy fads that really didn’t work for you out of your system and what’s left is your perfected personal look. The blogging world has been taken by storm with the 40 plus blogger, they are confident, sexy and not afraid to show their style to the world. There is several blogging communities devoted to the over 40 blogger. Sylvia who created 40+Style as well as Bella better known as The Citizen Rosebud showcase and celebrate the diversity of the mature blogger. I could go on about all these fabulous bloggers but I won’t, just check them out for yourself, I promise you won’t be sorry. I loved my youth but I am positively enthralled with my mature self. I have all the style with none of the ignorance that often comes with being young. And if you didn’t already guess my age is in the title of the post!.

You know I couldn’t pass up the chance to use that line right, lol. It wouldn’t have been me if I did. This tee reminded me of some Boogie Nights type stuff so of course I had to have it… didn’t realize when I bought it that is was sheer though. But that is an easy enough fix just add a camisole to keep it respectable.

I love a pencil skirt, it is so flattering to every figure especially a curvy one so when I am shopping for a skirt its usually a pencil. This Old Navy striped skirt can be dressed up or down so its a great piece to have in your closet.

And everyone knows that pencil skirts call for pointy toe pumps, in pink to be precise… good thing I just happened to have a pair handy.

It’s a wonderful thing that pencil skirts are one of the must have items for the season cause I won’t give them up trendy or not, just call me a pencil pusher.
